So...as has been pointed out to me at great length, I haven't updated this since the turn of the year. Quite a lot has changed since then, so I guess it's only fair that I bring everybody up to speed. First of all, roughly two weeks ago, April and I spent a weekend in NYC. My parents graduation present to me was a hotel room at the Muse hotel (which I highly recommend to everybody) on 46th st between 6th and 7th ave. Right at Times Square bitches. After that, I finally got my big boy job.
After years of working on my degree and months of looking for a job that didn't involved telling everybody by name, I finally got a job that allows me to use my degree. I'm working for a company, Targetem.com, that does SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as a copywriter. It's a small firm, but I enjoy the work, I get to read about new things every day, and the only people I have to deal with are the people in my office. It's nice.
The only downside to the job is that it's located in Chesapeake, VA...or about 100 miles south of Richmond. If I was swingin' single this wouldn't be cause for any stress, but luckily I do have an April, and said April works in Richmond at her big girl job. We're working on a compromise. Williamsburg. Nothing's official yet, and probably won't be for a while, but we're looking at getting an apartment in Williamsburg to split the difference on our commutes. Until then I'm staying with some family friends in Yorktown during the week and then going back up to Richmond on the weekends. So many miles on my car, but it's worth it for now.
Other than that, it's all been pretty normal. No more uniforms for me, I'm finally grown up and have a job with real hours, benefits, and weekends off. So this is what getting older feels like....not sure how I feel about it yet.
